CONSTRUCTIVIST
MIRROR SERIES
2014
The geometric design of the mirrors reference constructivist painting. Form is created by matching various shapes and by combining different proportions of geometry. I wanted my mirrors to display a rich harmony and simplicity of materiality. I used black acrylic, bronze acrylic mirror, gold acrylic mirror, polished copper to create the mirrored surfaces and ebonized wood for the frame. My intention for the frame was to have a strong linear quality. The rails of the frame were cut very thin to emphasize line. I ebonized the oak wood with soaking in a mixture of vinegar and steel wool. This process creates a natural dark color by penetrating and chemically reacting with the tannins in the wood.
